Frequently Asked Questions
Starting therapy for your child can feel like a big step into the unknown. Here's what to expect, in plain language — and if anything's still unclear, I'm always happy to talk it through on a free consultation call.
Fees & Insurance
Individual sessions are $195 for a 50-minute session. Family Sessions are $195-250. I want cost to be something we can talk about openly, not a barrier to getting support — if fees are a concern, let's talk during your consultation.
I am currently a private-pay provider and do not bill insurance directly. Upon request, I can provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. I'd recommend calling the number on the back of your insurance card and asking about your out-of-network mental health benefits before we begin.
I hold a limited number of sliding-scale spots for families experiencing financial hardship. If this would help your family, please mention it when you reach out and we'll see what's available.
Life with kids is unpredictable, and I understand plans change. I ask for at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Sessions cancelled with less notice, or missed altogether, are subject to the full session fee.
What to Expect
The first session is mostly about getting to know your family and what's been going on. For younger children, I usually spend some time with parents first, then meet your child so they can get comfortable with me and the space at their own pace. There's no pressure for anyone to share more than they're ready to on day one.
Yes. Parents are a huge part of a child's progress, and I check in with caregivers regularly. Depending on your child's age and what we're working on, this might look like brief updates after sessions, periodic parent check-in sessions, or full family sessions. What your child shares in session stays confidential in age-appropriate ways, but I'll always let you know how things are going and how you can support the work at home.
It's different for every family. Some come in for a specific, short-term concern; others benefit from longer-term support as things unfold. We'll check in regularly on progress and goals, and you're always welcome to ask where things stand.
Both. I see clients in person in Simi Valley and via telehealth anywhere in California. Sometimes families do a mix of the two, depending on the week.
I work with children, teens, and their families. I specialize in working with ages 5 to 18, but also work with other ages and adults. If you're not sure whether therapy is a good fit for your child's age or situation, reach out and we can talk it through.
Confidentiality is an important part of building trust, especially with teens. In general, what's shared in session stays private, with the standard legal exceptions around safety (such as risk of harm to self or others, or suspected abuse). I'll go over the specifics of confidentiality, and how it works differently for younger children versus teens, during our first session.
